JOAN SALVADOR GAVINA FOUNDATION: Scholarships in support of education for children of High School Certificate and Baccalaureate in the Raval district

Since its inception in 1979, the Gavina Foundation has been working in the Raval district of Barcelona to give an overall response to the vital and social needs of children, young people and their families in a situation of social vulnerability.

The Gavina Foundation promotes the quality of children's and family life by offering activities and services with the aim of carrying out compensatory action, always from a preventive and educational perspective, and as a proposal to break the structural circle of poverty and to contribute to improving the community and its environment.

2020 was a year marked by the state of alarm caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has triggered, and especially in the Raval district of Barcelona, a considerable increase in families served by Gavina that have been severely and directly affected, some with the inevitable loss of jobs.

With this reality aggravated by the pandemic widening the digital divide, the Bosch Aymerich Foundation is collaborating in the project to support adolescents and young people for an education of equal opportunities through scholarships, which will benefit adolescents and young people in a situation of social vulnerability between the ages of 12 and 22 linked to the projects of the Gavina Foundation.

This project aims to prevent school failure and drop-out, to provide the necessary social and economic conditions for adolescents and young people in a situation or at risk of social exclusion to improve their education and achieve academic success and to enable adolescents and young people doing High School Certificate, Baccalaureate, Intermediate or higher vocational degrees, or University, to continue with their post-compulsory studies.

The project was presented by Mr. Ricard Huguet, trustee of the Bosch Aymerich Foundation; a collaboration agreement was signed on 5 November 2020 for a term of three years, until 2022, and was signed by Mr. Jorge Balot, Director of the Joan Salvador Gavina Open Centre Foundation, Ms. Elena Cabarrocas, trustee and Mr. Antonio Bosch, secretary and trustee of the Bosch Aymerich Foundation.
